Our aim in the major renovation of this 1990's converted loft building, is to maintain the industrial character of the space but enliven it with sophisticated and stunning new features. The entire loft will be renovated and as per the client's request, an additional bathroom, laundry room and walk-in closets will be added. Despite the size of the existing loft, creating space for these new rooms is the primary challenge of this spatial puzzle.
The final layout was a result of our diligent thinking and sketching, constant dialogue with the client, and challenging some traditional layout conceptions. Also key to the design is the minimal but sophisticated material palette for the interiors. We wanted to highlight the existing concrete beams and ceiling in the space, yet soften the mood with warm wood cabinetry, wide-plank flooring, and atmospheric lighting. As the loft is north-facing, we sought creative ways to brighten the space and subtly integrate light fixtures throughout. Our goal is to make the space comfortable, beautiful, and simple; nothing should feel fussy or over the top.
