The client's brief called for a renovation of their non-descript, ranch-style home (first photo below) in the hills of San Rafael, California. Our clients are seeking a contemporary home that better connects the interior of the home to the beautiful exteriors. 

To achieve this, our design proposes an elegant and space-defining butterfly roof for the majority of the main floor. The new roof structure gives a decidedly contemporary flavor to the interior spaces while bringing in natural light and opening the home up to the incredible views of the valley and distant hills beyond. In addition, we reorganized the main "public" areas so that the kitchen and living room could seamlessly connect with the exterior deck and gardens below. The bedrooms on the main floor will also be redistributed to allow for a grand, master suite with stunning views and a luxurious bathing options.

The project is currently in-design and construction is expected to start in the Fall of 2025.
