This two-story, family lake house sits on the shores of Lake Willoughby, located in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont. The original house was built in the early 1950's. It's been used as a retreat and vacation home for multiple generations of a New England family. Because of the sentimental nature of the home's history, we had to be careful and sensitive with our rethinking of the new design.

We prioritized the beauty of the lake and designed creative ways to establish new views through the house. To achieve this, we relocated the staircase to the front of the home, added a small addition to the kitchen, and created large openings in the lake-side façade for oversized windows and sliding doors. The result is that most areas of the house now have beautiful views of the lake.

Both the interior and exterior of the home was completely renovated.
