The real estate developer, ZMX Inc., reached out Dean Works to master-plan a four-house development in Nashville, Tennessee. DW was tasked with designing homes that felt modern, minimal, and Scandinavian inspired. Each home was designed as a series of interconnected "black cubes and white gables". Our goal was to make the each house feel similar, in shape, size, and materials, but varied and unique. The exterior palette of vertical black boards, white stucco and metal roofs further reinforce the massing concept and deliver a striking new series of homes to this growing Nashville's neighborhood.

Shown in the photos above and below is the first home to be built: a 5 bed/4.5 bath, 5,535 square foot house. The ground level features polished concrete floors in the kitchen and living room with custom cabinetry and doors leading out to a patio. The living room steps down to the dining room which has wide-plank, white-oak flooring and oversized doors and windows. The flooring extents into the screened-in-porch and office. A custom steel staircase leads upstairs and to the the bedrooms. The master suite occupies the back "white gable" and looks out onto the backyard through large square windows. The white walls and generous windows throughout the interiors give the home a clean, light-filled, museum-like quality.
